Annex Residents Serve City

You might have seen them in their lime green shirts at Rally in the Square. Or maybe you noticed the city’s landscaping looks a little extra tidy. You can thank some of the men from the YMCA Annex.

The Annex has taken on a new life as a shelter for homeless single men and as a collaborative center for nonprofit organizations. Currently, the Annex has 66 rooms for homeless men, many of whom are veterans.

In collaboration with the Heart of Lima Neighborhood Block Watch, a half dozen of our residents—in the lime green shirts—have been keeping the Rally in the Square safe by serving as a volunteer security force. And when city budgets got tight, a handful of our residents volunteered to weed, water and tend to the city’s planters, as part of the Heart of Lima Neighborhood Association’s commitment to our community.

We are proud of the residents who, through their volunteerism, are giving back to the community that supports them.
