Y Adventure Guides

The purpose of the YMCA Adventure Guides program (formerly Indian Guides) is to  foster communication, understanding and companionship between parent and child through the teaching of  values, attitudes, fitness and health, knowledge and ethics.

The YMCA Adventure Guides  Program helps develop positive relationships between parents and children. Circles are generally formed around school or neighborhood groupings with six to ten parent/child couples or families. Individual circles meet monthly, September through June. Combined events for all circles will be held throughout the year. These events include camp-outs, sporting events and fundraising events for the YMCA Partners of Youth program.

Under the guidance of their fathers, kids have the freedom to explore their interests in a creative and imaginative way: no tests  to pass. Regular meetings combine ceremony, scouting reports and a program which includes crafts, games, or storytelling. The central theme of the program is youth development and to help promote a positive and lasting relationship between fathers and children. This program is for students ages 6-9.

YMCA RAG/Leather Program

The YMCA RAG/Leather Program is a Christian values initiative to promote youth development in mind, body and spirit. The YMCA RAG/Leather Program is designed to help youth and adults take a closer look at themselves in relation to their own strengths and weaknesses, their religious beliefs and to those around them. Beginning at age 9, youth begin a journey of self-exploration that lasts until adulthood.

Participants have the chance to earn 3 leathers or badges (Triangle, Square, Circle). After a participant has earned the leathers they advance to the 7 RAGS or bandanas (Blue, Silver, Brown, Gold, Red, Purple, White). Each RAG and Leather has a specific challenge and is accompanied b y a personal goal developed by the individual.
