Natural Wonders of the Northeast Coast - October 13, 2010
When you think of the Northeast Coast you usually think of big cities and crowded beaches, but there are still many "natural wonders" to explore. This 1500-mile adventure begins in busy Virginia Beach and ends at the Maine/Canada border. Along the way we observe an amazing array of birds, mammals, whales, insects, amphibians, flora, and endangered species. We also experience kayaking, sailing, aerial tours, lobstering, crabbing and over thirty lighthouses. This is a true adventure!
Inside the Tuscan Hills - November 3, 2010
Originally filmed as a PBS documentary travelogue, this show presents a vivid portrait of a place where ancient traditions have never disappeared and gives an insider's look at the rich rural culture of Tuscany. With exclusive access to the workshops, kitchens and homes of the Tuscan people, the show is a journey into one of the world's most beautiful places. Progressing through Tuscany geographically, the program showcases the regions amazing diversity of landscape, arts and food-revealing how the Tuscans themselves really live and weaving compelling stories of master craftsmen and country cooks, ancient farmhouses and rustic cheese makers, while soaking up the singularly beautiful landscape.
Discovering the Dutch - December 8, 2010
"Discovering the Dutch" goes beyond the cliches and gabled houses and into the stories of history already made-as well as today's life and history in the making. We explore 9 of the 12 lowland Provinces, each with it's own unique culture and origin; including North Holland, South Holland, Utrecht, North Braaabant, Gelderland, Limburg, Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland Provinces. These are just part of the sites and stories we encounter as we return to Amsterdam, to discover even more connections and contributions the Dutch have made to the United States and to the World. A fitting conclusion to our experience traveling throughout this remarkable reclaimed land from the water. Certainly affirming the popular saying, "God created the lowlands, but the Dutch created the Netherlands."
Texas, Byways & Highways - January 5, 2011
When standing in El Paso, Texas, you're closer to Los Angeles than to Texarkana on the other side of the State. When standing in Brownsville, Texas you are 475 miles from Mexico City, but almost 800 miles from Amarillo. There's a lot to explore here. The second largest canyon in the U.S., Palo Duro, is found here, a fact not well known, even in Texas. Football is the State religion, oil is the lymph gland, cotton and peanuts, along with cattle are the foundation. At dusk 20 million bats emerge from Braken Cave near San Antonio every night. Texas has become an important wine producing state!
Biblical Treasures II - February 9, 2011
Biblical Treasures of Turkey part two delights the audience with its exhilarating scenery and historical events that everybody has heard about, but has no idea where these sites were located or what they looked like. A film of the early years of Christianity offers an exposure to hundreds of bits of information that results in a huge storehouse of knowledge. At the same time, it makes for a marvelous travel itinerary. When the followers of Jesus moved to Antioch and established a church in a huge cave on a local mountainside, the Romans catalogued the name for the first time calling them "Christians." It was in Antioch that the Romans lived in sumptuous villas in a verdant setting complete with pools and fountains, gardens and waterfalls. The Roman highway that St. Paul used to travel to Antioch in Pisidia was found clinging to the side of a mountain. The highway is elevated off the ground so that it would keep the Roman Legions, as well as travelers, out of the tortuous brambles and the sharpest flesh piercing sticker bushes.
Vietnam Land of Surprises - March 9, 2011
After generations of war, Vietnam is finally in the limelight as a travel destination thanks to a generation born after the last war. Vietnam is fast, slow, traditional, cutting edge, exotic and familiar, and most of all...accessible. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), its two major cities, are total opposites. There are beautiful beaches, colorful markets, historic landmarks, and restaurants ranging from fluorescent lit dives to formal candle-lit 5-star dining rooms. There are two UNESCO sites: a royal city and the spectacular limestone mountains of Halong Bay. See the past in Hanoi and vault to the 21st century in Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnam of today is influenced not only by its ancient traditions and culture, but also by its checkered and often tragic past. Vietnam is finding its way back to its ancient roots of serenity and family oriented lifestyle. Experience a country still unspoiled and tolerant, a country quite unique in the world.
