World Service for Teens

The Lima Family YMCA is pleased to offer teens that have finished 9-12th grade by June 2012, a two week service learning experience in June 2012 on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.

The program is designed to promote leadership development through service, youth-to-youth interaction and cultural experiences with the Lakota people. It is educational in nature and requires a high level of commitment as each participant will be challenged mentally, physically and socially. By the very nature of this experience, teens must be able to exercise a higher degree of decision-making and accept responsibility for their own actions.

Acceptance into this program will be selective. Teens must complete an application, gather references and complete a questionnaire. Teens who are a member of the Lima Family YMCA's Teen Leaders Club, Black Achievers and/or Youth in Government will be given preference in the selection process.

Informational Meeting: Tuesday, January 17th at 7:30pm in room 305 at the Lima YMCA.

YMCA RAG/Leather Program

The YMCA RAG/Leather Program is a Christian values initiative to promote youth development in mind, body and spirit. The YMCA RAG/Leather Program is designed to help youth and adults take a closer look at themselves in relation to their own strengths and weaknesses, their religious beliefs and to those around them. Beginning at age 9, youth begin a journey of self-exploration that lasts until adulthood.

Participants have the chance to earn 3 leathers or badges (Triangle, Square, Circle). After a participant has earned the leathers they advance to the 7 RAGS or bandanas (Blue, Silver, Brown, Gold, Red, Purple, White). Each RAG and Leather has a specific challenge and is accompanied by a personal goal developed by the individual. Participation in the program is enhanced by the use of tradition, resource materials and one-on-one sharing sessions.
